Theotokas Monastery a brief description

The virgin of Atros monastery is the oldest on the Island and dates from the 8th Century. This magnificent building is well worth the trip and ideal for a romantic walk. The sunrise is spectacular from here.

The Monastery is just over 500metres above sea level, the first documented reference dates from 1248. Theotokas means god's mother.

This track is about 4.5Km long and during the journey to the top one is afforded some spectacular views of the sea Poros and beyond.

One of the more unusual views on your trip could be the tree climbing goats a rare but funny occurrence!

When leaving Poros bound for Sami you will see a small concrete road on your left signed for the monastery. This Rapidly changes to a dirt road which is navigable by a standard hire car when taken carefully, many people choose to make the journey on foot and a supply of water is recommended.
